The main compartment measures 35 x 30 x 75 cm and is accessed via a large zipper opening. The interior of the lid features strips of the loop for the attachment of hook backed accessories. The main compartment is a single cavernous space with two mesh pockets, one in each end, to help with organizing smaller items. Two steel G-hook compression straps help alleviate the zipper’s strain when this large bag is fully packed.
The external side pouch measures 35 x 23 x 5 cm and is designed for quick access and organization of smaller items and A4 documents. The back wall features two flat mesh pouches and D-ring and two webbing tabs for securing valuables via dummy cord or buckles. The interior of the front wall features a loop for attachment of any hook-backed accessories.
The flat hook-and-loop closure external pouches measure 24 x 20 cm, fits A5 documents and similar smaller items.
Two 10 x 15 cm fields of the loop on the side and end of the bag accept most name tapes and several other identifiers. Any D-ring can also be used to attach name tags.
We put extra effort into providing the best possible carrying experience. The carry handles’ length keeps the bag snugly at a comfortable carry height, offering good control. Each end features a hauling handle to allow comfortable lifting during transport. Six steel D-rings are used to attach the included adjustable shoulder strap, offering various orientations to suit personal taste. The D-rings are also the attachment points for the optional padded shoulder straps.
MODULAR AND ADAPTABLE
The loop strips inside the main compartment, and side pouch lid accept various hook-to-loop attachable accessories, pouches, and organizers. This allows you to customize your bag according to your preferences or build it into a specialized tool kit for whatever work you need it for.
The closed-cell foam padding inside the zippered lid and bottom of the bag can easily be removed, replaced, or reinforced. This allows the end-user to quickly adapt the bag with added padding or plastic sheet inserts if that extra level of protection or padding is needed.
The Keikka series of bags can utilize an optional (sold separately) padded clip-on backpack harness. During backpack carry, the closed-cell foam padding inside the lid provides a basic comfort level against your back, even when carrying nasty junk in the bag. When a backpack carrying a bag like this, it needs to be as un-uncomfortable as possible. Let’s face it – this will never be near as comfortable as an actual backpack. Instead of building our bags with unergonomic, overly long carry handles that double up as shoulder straps, we decided to make this a separate option for those who really need it, allowing us to properly purpose-build each carry option for the intended function.
HIGH-QUALITY MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION
The Keikka series of bags are made to endure a long life of service. The carry handles are made from a single length of 50 mm wide webbing, which wraps around the bottom of the bag, sandwiched between two layers of 1000D Cordura. Stress points are reinforced with double stitching, and seams are finished with binding tape to prevent fraying. All load-carrying buckles are steel and will probably outlast the rest of the bag.
The majority of materials we use for our commercial products are the same, which we operate in equipment for the Finnish Defence Forces and other defence and security clients. Our most commonly used fabric in load-carrying equipment is extremely worn resistant 1000D Cordura, as per FDF specs, with polyurethane coating on the inside. Again, the webbing and edge tape we use is, as per FDF specs, strong polyester webbing in various widths and thicknesses for different applications.
Our green and M05 camouflage materials and accessories are by default compliant with strict FDF specs for NIR reflection levels, as should be since these same materials are used in official military equipment.
HOW WE MAKE STUFF
We manufacture the absolute majority of our products ourselves at our own facilities in Karstula, Finland, and Tartu, Estonia. Product development and special production phases such as laser cutting and metalworking are done at our main facility in Finland. Textile cutting and sewing are done both in Finland and Estonia. Here at Savotta, we are not dreaming about low-cost labor price points but constantly working hard to keep production in our own hands!
LEARN FINNISH WITH SAVOTTA
In Finland, we have this thing called “keikka,” as in gig (concert), business trip, or burglary. For a keikka you need a bag, a suitably sized one with carrying handles and shoulder strap, preferably with some basic organization compartments. And it should be strong enough to carry a heavy load. “Keikkalaukku” (“laukku” = bag) has since decades back established itself as the common Finnish term for duffel bags, gear bags. You know THAT particular type of proper heavy hauling bags. We have been making heavy-duty backpacks since before most of our current employees were born. It’s about time we did a proper series of duffel bags too!
Now you’re that much smarter. Good job, Finnish is a damn difficult language to learn!
